Glance Inward

Can you honor what’s waiting there, make friends with the journey you’ve been on all along?

Make this sacrament to your own inner being,
write a poem
make a sketch,
color a sidewalk with chalk,
write a letter on real paper,
|with a colored pen,
to someone who doesn’t actually exist.

Glance inward,
only a glance,
to see what is unfolding in you.

Can you honor what’s waiting there,
make friends with the journey you’ve been on all along?
You may halt at the edge of those shores,
hesitate,
that’s OK.
Just know there is nothing to be afraid of.
I’m not trying to tell you that you can handle it,
you really can’t,
that’s why it’s there,
the journey that will change you,
make you more real in the world than you ever imagined possible.

One day, if you travel far enough, you’ll start to feel the presence of something eternal.
At first it feels like the shadow of something, not real,
but it will grow in your company as you grow.
|When you finally sit with it, accept its companionship,
you’ll know, without doubt, that you are of its presence,
not the other way around.

Your journey has led you to the place where everyone’s journey begins.

You might give it a name, feel it as light or dark or both,
it doesn’t matter.

You have arrived.
Once you have settled there
make this sacrament to the world,
write a poem, make a sketch.

Glance inward,
only one glance.

You never know where it will lead you.
